The Hotels series captures the reunion of two close friends navigating lives in different parts of the country. When Amanda McNelis and I come together in California, we explore the state's diverse landscapes and interiors—from desert mysticism to historic grandeur—while documenting our evolving friendship through film. These images are about more than place; they're about the intimacy, artistry, and discovery that unfolds when we reconnect and create together.

HOTEL FIGUEROA

Established in 1926, Hotel Figueroa is a favorite downtown Los Angeles haunt—emphasis on the haunt. Although parts of the hotel, including the rooms, have been renovated, other spaces like the hallways remain untouched. It’s a study in contrasts: beautifully renovated rooms, dark and eerie corridors.

THE NOMAD HOTEL

The moment you walk into The NoMad, you’re enveloped in this energy—the restaurant's atmosphere filling the air with something palpable and intoxicating. When I scanned the film without color correction, a strong red hue emerged, and I leaned into it—it embodied the sultry, sinister, and lush feel of that night.
